New Gym

Why is it, that when we start a new gym, many of us suffer from the dreaded gym anxiety?

I have recently moved and joined a new gym, close to work. I signed up for my first class today and I worried about the session all day. What room is the class? Are there showers? What should I bring? What if the class exceeds my abilities? What if I make a fool of myself? I think you get the point.

The thing is, I’m not new to the gym world and have been a regular at my old gym for years. As soon as I step into the unknown, as you can probably tell, my anxiety spikes. At that point, I had a decision to make. I could either; go home and miss my class (and get a black mark against my name) or, I could face my fears knowing that they’re just that, fears. Which are very unlikely to materialise.

I’m pleased to say that today I faced my fears, and can confirm, they were in fact irrational fears and that I had the best time at my class. If anyone’s reading this, and feeling something similar, then I hope you can take some learning from me. The benefit of facing your fears far outweighs the potential fears that may/may not arise.
